Hand block printed tablecloths are beautiful and they are ment to be used. Here are our best tips for removing stains and caring for your hand printed textiles. Follow our washing instructions and your textiles will stay beautiful for a long time.
How to care for hand block printed textiles
Remove stains as soon as possible, by cleaning them individually, and aim to use your washing machine as little as possible. When you need to wash the tablecloth in the machine use a short and gentle program for silk/wool. 30 degrees for tablecloths and 40 degrees for napkins and kitchen towels. The length of the program is very important, the hand printed colors should not be soaked in water for long periods of time. Use a gentle washing liquid for wool/silk without bleach.
If you have a textile with gold or silver print make sure you wash each tablecloth separately in the machine. If the machine is full the textiles will rubb on the tablecloth and this can cause the gold to rub off.
Hang the textiles to dry in the shade or use a drying cabinet. Make sure you store your textiles in a dry place away from direct sunlight. We do not recommend to use a tumble dryer.
Remove water based stains (like red wine)
The trick to removing stains effectively is to act quickly. If the stain dries into the fabric it is more difficult to remove. As soon as possible have water on the stain to make sure it doesn't dry. If you are having dinner this can be done during the dinner party. If you want you can use a little stain remover on like Vanish. Let it work for 20 minutes before you rinse off all the stain remover with warm water. Make sure you remove all the stain remover as stain removers can bleach the printe colors if it is left on the fabric for more than 20 minutes. If the stain is still there, wash the tablecloth in the washing machine according to the washing instructions. Remember to use a short program.
Remove greasy stains
Mix a little dishwater liquid with warm water and rub on the stain. Let it work for some minutes before you rinse the tablecloth in warm water to remove the soap. After this you can wash the textile on the washing machine according to the washing instructions if you still need to.
